Off Camera Flash Workshop
Level: ADVANCED | Duration: 4.5 hours | No. of Students: 6

Description: Never be afraid of shooting in the dark again! Take your photos to the next level and let your skillset set you apart from the crowd. Don’t label yourself as being just a “natural light” photographer. This is a hands on workshop where you can get all your questions answered in a real-life shooting scenario.

Students will learn how to set up and shoot a single flash setup for sunset photos, and then will learn how to set up and shoot a night shot using a 2 flash (cross light) setup at an outdoor location. You will produce stunning photos that people think are “Photoshopped.” Learn how to troubleshoot, gear check, and get tips and tricks that you’ll never find in a textbook!

Required Knowledge

Must be comfortable shooting in manual mode. Basic knowledge of shooting with natural light. Basic knowledge of using on camera flash in manual mode and bouncing flash.

Required Gear List

  • DSLR
  • (2) fully charged batteries for DSLR
  • minimum 8gb memory card
  • lens
    • must stop down to 2.8
    • focal length: ultra wide to short telephoto range / 85mm max
  • flashlight
  • gear bag to carry all your things

Optional Gear List

  • (2) flashes that are compatible with your camera
    • flashes must zoom to at least 85
    • must be capable of manual mode
    • fully charged flash batteries
  • (2) flash receivers
  • (1) flash trigger
  • (2) light stands
  • (2) flash head mounts
  • tripod with ball head mount
  • (1) CTO flash gel

Other Things to Consider

  • warm jacket night weather can be unpredictable, so come prepared
  • drinking water to stay hydrated  
  • comfortable walking shoes
  • something to sit on might not have seating available, be prepared for sitting on the floor or standing for a while
  • snacks this is almost a 5 hour workshop..you’re going to need some energy
